New Delhi: After clinching historic two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics 2024, double medallist Manu Bhaker may skip the World Cup in October as the ace shooter has decided to take a three-month break. Her coach Jaspal Rana, who played a pivotal role in the young shooter’s success, has confirmed the same.
The 22-year-old Indian shooter scripted Olympic history at the Paris Games as she clinched a bronze medal each in the women’s 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team event, in which she had paired with Sarabjot Singh. After giving India their first medal at the Summer Games and then following it with another one, is set to take a much-deserved break from the sport.
Coach Rana confirms Manu’s break
In an interaction with news agency PTI, her coach Jaspal Rana said that he’s not sure whether Manu will be part of the World Cup or not.
“I am not sure whether she will be at the Shooting World Cup in October because she is taking a three-month break. It’s a normal break, she has been training for a long time.” Rana told PTI.
The shooting World Cup is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from October to 18. Rana, who deserves equal credit for Manu’s success at the Game also shed light on the agony of returning without a medal from the Tokyo Games three years back. In addition, he also said that they will work to peak at the 2026 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games after her break.
Manu also came close to winning a third bronze in 25m pistol before finishing a creditable fourth in Paris. No Indian athlete has won more than two individual medals at the Olympics.
