New Delhi: Pakistan selector Mohammad Yousuf stepped down owing to “personal reasons” on Sunday, only a week before they host England for a three-Test series from on October 7 in Multan.
Former skipper Yousuf has handled various other responsibilities in Pakistan Cricket Board as well since last year.
He was also in the national selection committee earlier and has served as the batting coach of the senior team and coach of the U-19 team in the last two years.
After being a selector during a period when restructuring of the selection committee changed several times, Yousuf leaves with his focus on other responsibilities within the board.
The PCB has confirmed his resignation and he will be accommodated in a different role within the organisation after making him a part of its six-man selection committee that was revamped in July after Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup in the first round.
“Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket,” Yousuf said on social media platform X.
“I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness.”
After Yousuf’s resignation, the revised selection committee has four voting and five non-voting members.
Yousuf played 90 Tests for the national team and was part of the committee that picked the team that lost to Bangladesh 0-2 at home this month.
Pakistan’s cricket is currently in turmoil off the field after poor performances on it, as they failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup in June and ODI World Cup last year, both times losing to arch-rivals India.
