New Delhi: The new ICC Chairman Jay Shah has promised to grow the women’s cricket and preserve Test cricket during his tenure in the global cricketing body. He started the role of chairman on Sunday, December 1 as he took over the control from Greg Barclay after being elected unopposed in August earlier this year.
Shah will leave his role as the secretary of the BCCI which he started in 2019. He started his cricket administration journey in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). He oversaw the development of India’s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad during his tenure. After that, he became the youngest BCCI secretary in 2019.
During his BCCI tenure, Shah supported women’s cricket by introducing equal pay as men cricketers and also played a crucial role in the formation of Women’s Premier League (WPL). He also encouraged young cricketer to play more domestic tournaments with the increase in match fees and the cash prizes for each game.

Shah posted an statement on X and said that he is honoured to begin the role of ICC Chairman today and is committed to working closely with the team and country members to grow cricket and create new avenues for its development.
“I am deeply honoured to begin my role as ICC Chair today. Cricket is a sport that unites millions across the globe, and this is a moment of immense responsibility and opportunity. As we enter a transformative phase for cricket” Shah posted on his X account.
He further said that his vision is to make cricket accessible to more people while ensuring the evolution of the game meets aspirations of cricket fans worldwide. Shah also said that he is dedicated to preserving the stature of Test cricket.

Apart from working as a secretary of BCCI, Shah played important role as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
