The headline-grabbing and much-discussed merge of Air India and Vistara has taken place with the first flight of the integrated service provider Air India-Vistara taking off from Doha for Mumbai on Monday night. As a preparation for the merger, Vistara closed all its ticket booking operation on September 3, 2024. The last tickets were booked for Monday, November 11. All tickets booked for travel on November 12 or later will be transferred to Air India flights. Club Vistara has joined hands with Air India Flying Returns to turn into Maharaja Club. The company has informed that from November 12, customers can access their account on https://airindia.com. Vistara Aircrafts will have special codes ‘AI 2’ after merger.
How will passengers identify Vistara flight in the new arrangement after the merger?
Ans: Though the codes of Vistara flights will change, passengers can easily identify them with the new code structure. Air India will use a special four-digit code beginning with ‘AI 2’. Say, for example, UK 955 will become AI 2955. Customers can also use this code to book on the website www.airindia.com after November 12.
Post merger, will there be any change in the flight schedules operated by Vistara?
The company has said that there will be no change in the flight schedules operated by Vistara aircraft. They would not only remain the same but also passengers will continue to have the same “Vistara in-flight experience that includes the product and service such as menu and cutlery on the Vistara aircraft.” Moreover, the same crew will service the passengers.
What will happen to Club Vistara after merger?
According to reports, Club Vistara ID will be kept active till November 11, 2024. Afterwards, a new Flying Returns ID will be given to the relevant passengers. If a passenger has a Flying Returns account and he/she permits Air India for transferring the Club Vistara data, the information will be transferred smoothly. A new Flying Returns will be generated if a passenger does not have an account.

Singapore Airlines will have a significant stake of 25.1% in Air India, which will be under the control of the Tata group. Singapore Airlines had a 49% stake in Vistara which was set up in 2015 as a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines.
