New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe scored his 50th international goal to steer France to a 2-0 win over hosts Germany in their UEFA Nations League third-place play-off and the bronze medal.

The French captain typically scored with a swift cut inside his marker and a powerful shot in the 45th minute from Aurelien Tchouameni to put his side ahead.

Mbappe is now third on the list of France’s all-time scorers, only behind Thierry Henry (51) and Olivier Giroud (57).

He broke Henry’s record to become the fastest men’s player to reach 50 goals for France, in 90 games, ahead of Henry’s 113 games and Giroud’s 115 games.

The Real Madrid forward also assisted Michael Olise in scoring the second goal six minutes from time to confirm France’s victory.

He capitalised on a mistake from Robin Koch and selflessly squared the ball for Olise to slot the ball into the empty net.
