Mumbai: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is launching a specially curated heritage tour titled ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit’, a 5-night, 6-day experience that pays tribute to the life, valour, and legacy of the great Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Operated through the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train, this immersive journey is designed to offer travellers a deep insight into the historical and cultural significance of the places associated with the Maratha Empire. The tour commences on 9th June 2025 and covers prominent destinations such as Raigad, Pune, Shivneri Fort, Bhimashankar, Pratapgarh, Kolhapur, and Panhala before returning to Mumbai.

The itinerary begins from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, with additional boarding and deboarding options available at Dadar and Thane. From Mumbai, the train route includes stops at Mangaon, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, before looping back to Mumbai.
The package includes travel by train, local transport for sightseeing via bus, hotel accommodation, and meals, covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This all-inclusive tour aims to provide comfort and cultural enrichment to history enthusiasts and pilgrims alike.
Travellers can choose from three categories of accommodation. The Economy (Sleeper Class) package is priced at Rs 13,155 per person, Comfort (3 AC) at Rs 19,840, and Superior (2 AC) at Rs 27,365—all prices inclusive of GST. Solo travellers will be accommodated on a shared basis.

The tour covers several key destinations that are integral to the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Among them is the majestic Raigad Fort, where Shivaji was crowned and which served as the capital of the Maratha kingdom.
In Pune, tourists will visit Lal Mahal, the childhood home of Shivaji Maharaj; Kasba Ganpati, the city’s first Ganesh idol installed by Rajmata Jijabai and Shivaji; and Shivsrushti, an attraction dedicated to illustrating Shivaji’s life and achievements.
Another significant stop is Pratapgarh Fort, renowned for the 1659 battle between Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan. The fort also houses the Tulja Bhavani Temple, built by Shivaji in reverence for his family deity. The itinerary further includes Panhala Fort, known for its snake-like layout and its association with Baji Prabhu Deshpande’s legendary act of bravery while defending Shivaji Maharaj.
In addition to the historical landmarks, the tour also includes visits to revered pilgrimage sites. At Bhimashankar, pilgrims will visit one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, a major spiritual site nestled in the Sahyadri hills.
In Kolhapur, travellers will pay homage at the Mahalakshmi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, affectionately worshipped by locals as Ambabai.
