Andhra Cricket Association Rewards Nitish Reddy with ₹25 lakh for MCG heroics

New Delhi: The Andhra Cricket Association has announced cash reward of INR 25 lakh for Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy following the recent heroics against Australia in the Boxing-Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

On Saturday, Nitish played a remarkable unbeaten 105-run knock after India were reeling at 191 for 6 in the morning of Day 4. The 21-year-old displayed resilience and grit altogether to stage the fightback for the visitors. He was seen being involved in an important 121-run partnership with all-rounder Washington Sundar.

To commemorate the success of Nitish, who made his domestic debut for the Andhra cricket team in January 2020, the state association has announced a massive sum for the promising player.

“It is a fortunate day and a happiest moment for the Andhra Cricket Association. We are very happy that a boy from Andhra has been picked for the Test format and international T20 format. As an honour, on behalf of the Andhra Cricket Association, Rs 25 lakh prize money is being given to Nitish Kumar Reddy,” ACA President Kesineni Sivanath said.

Nitish Kumar Reddy has been India’s best performer in BGT 2024-25

Nitish has showed immense potential of his talent by playing some masterclass cameos in the start of the series, adding those valuable 40-plus contributions. But then in Melbourne, he upped the ante to help India avoid the follow-on into the second innings. It was the knock that should lift the Indian team’s spirit for a miraculous comeback in this MCG Test as Reddy and Sundar cut the deficit to 116 runs with the visitors still have one wicket to reduce that margin.

The Andhra player has amassed 284 runs in six innings at an average of 71 with the only century coming in Melbourne. He has scored the most runs from the Indian camp and is only behind Australia’s Travis Head (409 runs at 68.17) in the list of top run-getters from the series.

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has awarded Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy a ₹25 lakh cash prize for his marvellous century (105*) against Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. Reddy’s unbeaten knock, along with a crucial partnership with Washington Sundar, helped India avoid a follow-on.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
