New Delhi: Manchester United’s Antony has scored his first goal for Real Betis in the side’s clash against Celta Vigo in La Liga. During the January transfer window,  Anotny made his temporary move to join the Spanish side after failing to make it into Ruben Amorim’s side.  In his debut game, Antony was named the player of the match and even got the La Liga MVP award.

During Real Betis’ game against Athletic Bilbao, Antony was key to his side opening the scoring, as he curled a shot at Unai Simon, who though stopped it but Isco managed to find the back of the net, with a simple tap from close range. Now Antony has managed to score after he broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when facing Celta Vigo at Estadio de Balaidos.

The 24-year-old was unmarked as he was able to connect a cut-back, which he shifted to his right foot before launching a curling shot into the bottom corner. The strike marked his first goal in top-tier football since scoring against Burnley in April 2024, who are now relegated to the second division. Celta Viga though won 3-2, Antony can be pleased with his latest performance.

Antony had come to the side from Ajax in 2022 and his signing at £80m was United’s second costliest signing behind Paul Pogba’s. Along with Antony, United have loaned Marcus Rashford as well. However, their performance at the transfer window wasn’t impressive and it has been of some stress for Red Devils Manager Amorim.

At Beatis, Antony is basking in glory, with Manuel Pellegrini, the Seville-based club’s coach noting that he was delighted by the Brazilian’s performance and saying that Antony was finding his “confidence” as he improved his performance. Antony will remain with the Beatis until the end of this season. His contract with United runs until 2027 and has an option to extend 12 more months.

Antony has scored his first goal for Real Betis, just second game into his loan stint from Manchester United. The Brazilian scored for the first time in first division football since April 2024.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
