New Delhi: Manchester United winger Antony has allegedly taken his former Netherlands club Ajax to court for fining him illegally for his move to Old Trafford. In August 2022, the Brazilian became United’s third most expensive signing after Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku after a long transfer episode during which time Ajax repeatedly dismissed many bids from the Red Devils before arriving at the theatre of dreams for £86m.

Antony had expressed his wish to continue his playing career under Erik ten Hag, who had joined as United’s manager in the summer itself, succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, rejecting Ajax’s offer to extend his stay at the Dutch club. This resulted in the 24-year-old missing out on training sessions while United negotiated a deal with Ajax. Antony was left out of the Eredivisie clash against rivals Sparta Rotterdam despite being fit for match.

According to Dutch media reports, the court proceedings are in progress, with Antony claiming that Ajax’s decision to fine him on three different instances for being unavailable without permission was “unlawful”. Antony claimed that these fines were deducted during the transfer without any notification The amount that Antony is demanding is being reported as not more than some “hundred thousand euros”.

Antony’s move to United, though, hasn’t worked in his favour, with many speculating that he might be allowed to leave in the January transfer window. He has made 94 appearances for United across competitions, scoring 12 times. In his first three games in the Premier League, he scored thrice, but 57 games later, he has managed to score only on two more occasions.

Even during Ten Hag’s duration, he wasn’t being considered as the top choice this season. After Ruben Amorim succeeded Ten Hag, he was still not a regular in the Portuguese manager’s squad. He has just played 84 minutes this season, and on six occasions, he has come as a second-half substitute and is yet to start in any games.

Antony has reportedly taken his former club Ajax to court for fining him during the Brazil international’s negotiations for a move to Manchester United in 2022.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
