IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians in rain-affected thriller to go on top of points table

New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) rode on Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee’s finishing heroics in the last over to clinch a thrilling victory in a nail-biting rain-affected contest against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday. Tewatia and Coetzee helped GT get 15 runs in the final over to help them chase down the revised target of 147 runs against MI.

Defending a moderate total of 155 runs, Mumbai Indians reduced Gujarat Titans to 126/6 in the 18th over to make a strong comeback in the game after skipper Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler put GT on track with valuable knocks. However, rain delayed the proceedings twice before the match was reduced to a 19-over contest, with GT getting a revised target of 147.

GT were 132/6 at the end of the 18 overs, with 24 runs to get off the last two overs when rain played spoilsport for the second time in the match. However, as the weather settled, GT were asked to chase down 15 in 1 over for victory. MI skipper Hardik Pandya handed the ball to Deepak Chahar to defend 15 of the all-important over.

But the new-ball bowler’s inexperience showed as Tewatia and Coetzee put GT in touching distance of a victory by getting 14 runs off the first four balls. Coetzee was dismissed off the penultimate delivery, leading to intense drama. However, new batter Arshad Khan held his nerves to steal a single off the last ball to seal a thrilling victory for GT.

Rahul Tewatia, Gerald Coetzee and Arshad Khan held their nerves in the final over to help Gujarat Titans chase down the revised target of 147 runs in 19 overs and beat Mumbai Indians by 3 wickets via DLS method in a rain-affected thriller in IPL 2025 on Tuesday.  IPL Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
