Are banks closed today as India conducts Mock Drills after Operation Sindoor?

New Delhi: Mock drills are set to be conducted across the country on Wednesday amid rising tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. In this scenario, many people want to know whether banks will open or remain closed. It may be noted that tensions between the two Asian neighbours have soared after India on early Wednesday carried out Operation Sindoor hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir to avenge the recent terror attack in Kashmir which left 26 dead.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not declared any official holiday for May 7, 2025, i.e., today. All banks across the country will continue with their operations. It may be noted that RBI holiday list mentions that there is no national holiday this month and there will only be state-specific banks for events like – Maharashtra Din/May Day (Labor Day) (May 1), birthday of Rabindranath Tagore (May 9), Buddha Purnima (May 12), Sikkim State Day (May 16), Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam (May 26), Maharana Pratap Jayanti (May 29).

For today’s mega civil defence mock drill ‘Operation Abhyaas’, divisional commissioners, district collectors, inspectors-general of police, district police chiefs and officers of the departments concerned are on alert for the exercise in areas where the drills will be conducted.
