New Delhi: Armless para-archer Sheetal Devi on Thursday presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi a special gift as she signed a jersey using her foot before gifting it to the PM. PM Modi welcomed India’s para-athletes on September 12 to his official residence in the national capital. During the session, PM Modi interacted with the athletes, lauding them for the remarkable show at the recently-concluded event.
PM Narendra Modi expressed his happiness for their pathbreaking achievements and celebrated their success immensely. During the special interaction with number of athletes, PM Modi, in the video, was seen watching Sheetal as she signed the jersey with her foot. The video, which was released by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) showed the entire interaction between the Prime Minister and the para-athletes.

Sheetal’s performance at Paris Paralympics
Para-archer Sheetal Devi along with Rakesh Kumar claimed a bronze medal in the mixed team compound event the Paralympics. The duo defeated Italy’s Matteo Bonacina and Eleonora with a score of 156-155 at Invalides. By virtue of this victory, Indian matched the Paralympic record set by Turkiye three years ago at Tokyo Paralympics.
Meanwhile, apart from the heartwarming Sheetal Devi moment, another episode caught the attention of all when javelin gold medalist Navdeep Singh presented PM Modi with a cap he was wearing and the PM sat on the floor to wear it. This allowed the para-athlete, who is dwarf, comfortable place the cap on PM Modi’s head. Indian contingent bagged a record 29 medals at the event, surpassing the previous medal tally of 19 achieved in Tokyo.
