New Delhi: As always, there was no shortage of drama and goals in Europe, where some of the best teams in world football were in action in their domestic leagues. While the Premier League saw Manchester City pull off a statement victory against Chelsea and Tottenham suffering yet another damaging blow against Leicester, there was much more happening all across Europe in Laliga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. It was an action packed week of football in Europe, and here’s a look at how different leagues are shaping up before heading into their next matchweeks.
Laliga (Matchday 21)

Real Madrid have been under a lot of criticism this season, which is sometimes justified given that they haven’t performed well in crucial games, but this past weekend they opened up a four-point lead at the top of La Liga. With Kylian Mbappé scoring three goals in a resounding 3-0 victory, Carlo Ancelotti’s team easily defeated Real Valladolid, capitalizing on second-place Atletico Madrid being held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal. Diego Simeone’s side will be needing a lot of self searching to do as this draw has only creatd further problems for them.
Meanwhile, there was flurry of goals at Barcelona, when the Catalan giants put further miseries on relegation threatened Valencia, putting seven goals past them to maitain their third spot in the table. Athletic might just be kicking themselves, as they couldn’t socre against a stubborn Leganes side ending the game deadlocked. Mallorca were defeated by Real Betis while Sevilla could only manage to get a point against Espanyol with a 1-1 draw. Real Sociedad were thrashed by Getafe as their hopes of clinching European spot took a massive hit.
Serie A (Matchday 22)

Juventus made the biggest headline in Italy, but for certain reasons that they might not fancy hearing, as it was Napoli who ended their undefeated run this season in the league. Antonio Conte’s side managed to edge past Thiago Motta’s side 2-1, after a fantastic comeback to maintain their top spot. Meanwhile, Breathing down Napoli’s neck at second place, Inter were also victorious as they thrashed Lecce 4-0. Another comeback win involved AC Milan beating Parma 3-2, as their new signing Kyle Walker watched from the stands. He will soonbe making his first appearance for the Rossoneri.
Third placed Atalanta managed to keep up the pace, winning against Como, after a disappointing loss in the previous matchday while Lazio were shocked by Fiorentina as they lost 2-1 despite scoring a late goal. Roma extended their unbeaten streak to six in the league as they managed to win it 2-1 against Udinese. Similarly for Torino, they also extended their unbeaten run in the league to five, with four draws and finally winning 2-0 against Cagliari in the 22nd matchday.
Bundesliga (Matchday 19)

The meeting between second-place Bayer Leverkusen and fifth-place RB Leipzig was the matchday’s most anticipated match. Both the sides produced a fantastic game of football, as the match ended 2-2, with neither of the two sides changing their spot in the table. Bayern, after a disappointing Champions League performance against Feyenoord managed to win a close battle against Freiburg as it ended 2-1. Frankfurt managed to draw 1-1 against Hoffenheim while Mainz stunned VfB Stuttgart, by winning the match 2-0.
Borussia Monchengladbach thrashed bottom club Bochum 3-0, suggesting that the three bottom clubs sit on 13 points, with Heidenheim sitting 16th after their loss against Augsburg and Holstein Kiel on 17th after a draw against Wolfsburg. Another big result saw Borussia Dortmund’s horrible season getting worse as they threw away a 2-0 lead against Werder Bremen, as the points were shared at 2-2. Once a usual contenders for the title, giving Bayern something to be concerned about, are now sitting 11th in the league.
Ligue 1 (Matchday 19)

Paris Saint-Germain are still ten points clear at the top despite their draw against Reims. Marseille suffered a shocking loss against OGC Nice as Guessand and Cho sealed the victory for the fourth place Nice. Monaco played their part in a thrilling battle against Rennes, as they managed to win the match 3-2 to stay third in the table. Lyon drew their second consecutive game as their fixture ended 1-1 against Nantes. Meanwhile, LOSC Lille suffered a damaging blow against Strasbourg, as they lost 2-1.
