Arne Slot credits Jurgen Klopp’s gesture for Liverpool’s early season form

New Delhi: Arne Slot has revealed that it was Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool farewell gesture that has, in fact, made his life at the club easy. Klopp was at the helm of the Reds for nine years and had started getting the supporters warmed up to Slot’s arrival in the club by chanting the Dutch manager’s name during his end-of-the-season speech on the last day of the previous season’s Premier League.

Slot has started his tenure at Liverpool at a great pace. The side now sits at the top of both the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League. In the Premier League, they are four points clear despite their weekend game being postponed due to storm Darragh. In the Champions League, Slot has a 100% win record after six records, becoming the first Premier League manager to do so. The side looks cruising towards the knockout stage of the tournament.

Though the side’s performance in the game against Girona may not have been their most impressive, they are still in the form of their lives. Slot, though disappointed with the performance, expressed his delight at having his star goalkeeper Alisson Becker back in the side after missing the squad due to a hamstring injury. The Reds have now kept five consecutive clean sheets in the Champions League.

Slot had earlier noted that his squad has quality players who can make the big difference for the side. Without good players, a manager cannot be making much difference. In his interaction, Slot mentioned that Klopp ensured that the transition was smooth with what his parting words from Liverpool were. With the stage set, Slot believes, he needed to consistently win games. The 46-year-old noted that end of the day the results matter.

In order to have the support of fans, Slot felt it was an important win, and hence, Anfield has been this supportive even during games against Manchester City and Real Madrid. Liverpool will return to Anfield for Premier League game against Fulham before taking on Southampton in EFL quarter-final in the next mid-week.
