New Delhi: FIFA, led by Arsene Wenger, has introduced a talent development initiative in Egypt, aiming to strengthen youth football and coaching education. Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, visited the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) headquarters in Cairo, stressing the country’s rich football history and its potential for international success. Egypt, a seven-time Africa Cup of Nations winner, has struggled with youth development, and FIFA’s project seeks to address this gap.

The initiative is part of FIFA’s broader Talent Development Scheme (TDS), which has already benefitted over 200 member associations. Egypt will receive support in scouting young talents, improving coaching methods, and upgrading football infrastructure. Wenger highlighted the importance of proper training structures and the need for quality coaching to nurture future stars.
Workshops and training sessions for EFA academy staff will focus on talent identification and advanced training techniques. The EFA sees this as a major step forward, aiming to implement the strategies to build a sustainable system for young footballers. Clubs like Pyramids FC and ZED FC have already been working on youth development, and FIFA’s initiative will provide further support to such efforts.
Arsene Wenger also discussed the FIFA Club World Cup’s role in offering global exposure to clubs outside Europe. He believes Egyptian clubs could benefit from this competition, using it as a platform to compete at the highest level.
This partnership between FIFA and the EFA signals a new era for Egyptian football. With a structured approach to youth development, improved coaching, and better facilities, the country could produce more elite footballers and strengthen its presence on the international stage.
