Washington: Donald Trump, the Republican Presidential candidate for the race for US election, responding to US President Joe Biden‘s decision to opt out of the White House race, said that he thought Vice President Kamala Harris would be easier to defeat in November’s election as compared to the Democratic President Joe Biden who stepped aside as his party’s candidate.
Shortly after Biden declared his decision to withdraw from the US presidential election and endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party nominee, Trump made the comments on CNN.
Following a terrible debate with Trump that cast doubt on his suitability for leadership just four months before the election, Biden, 81, announced his withdrawal from the race on Sunday. Biden intended to complete his remaining term of office, which concludes on January 20, 2025.
In a statement, Biden said, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term”.
Just after the announcement through a letter, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take on Trump as the Democratic Party candidate in the November election and encouraged his party to unite behind her.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he said in another post on X. “Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump,” Biden wrote on X.
Following Biden’s terrible debate performance against the former Trump on June 27, the calls for his resignation grew stronger. Prominent Democrats like former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama expressed doubts about Biden’s chances of winning.
