Tampa: As the threat of an impending storm looms over the region, residents of Tampa are experiencing severe traffic congestion while attempting to evacuate northward.

Tampa Residents Urged to Evacuate Early Amid Storm Warnings

Authorities are advising Tampa residents to take storm warnings seriously and evacuate as soon as possible towards northwards. With forecasts predicting heavy rain and strong winds, many families are leaving their homes in search of safer locations.

State of Emergency Declared for 51 Counties

Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in fifty-one Florida counties. Executive Order 24-215 expands the previous emergency proclamation to include additional regions under high alert. To facilitate a swift and safe evacuation, the order also suspends tolls on key evacuation routes across Central and West Florida, including Alligator Alley.

Heavy Traffic on Evacuation Routes

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that major evacuation routes, such as Interstate 75 and Interstate 275, are experiencing significant traffic congestion. Law enforcement is actively managing the situation to ensure emergency vehicles can navigate through the delays.

Alternative Routes and Real-Time Updates

The Florida Department of Transportation advises residents to check for real-time traffic updates and consider alternative routes if needed. While some evacuees are seeking temporary shelters, others are staying with family or friends in safer areas.
