New Delhi: It was not the best of the starts to India’s home Test season as the batting stalwarts of the team produced a flop show on the first day of the first Test match against Bangladesh on Thursday. But to everyone’s surprise, local boy Ravichandran Ashwin stood up on the occasion and rescued Team India, which was tottering at 144 for 6.
Ashwin smashed his 6th century in the longest format of the game and his second in Chennai as the hosts ended the first day at 339 for 6, with Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja solid at the crease with an unbeaten 7th wicket stand of 195 runs. While scored 102 off just 112 balls, Jadeja ably supported the seasoned player with an unbeaten knock of 86 when stumps were called.
After the Chennai boy wrecked havoc on the Bangla Tigers, netizens showered all their love and affection for Ashwin who put India in command after initial setbacks. Ashwin proved to be the torchbearer for the side and turned on his attacking mode right from the beginning, something that Bangladesh did not expect.

The innings produced by Ashwin, in company of Jadeja, seemed to be unaffected from whatever the situation was on the field. With India reeling at 144 for 6, a tactical and defensive approach was expected from the veteran player but what took place at Chepauk was completely opposite. Meanwhile, India would walk into the field high on confidence on the second day and the duo would aim to further cash on the opportunity and elevate the score.
