New Delhi: India’s Rupal Chaudhary produced a spirited display to bag a silver medal in the women’s 400m final, while Pooja snared a silver medal in the women’s 1500m final as the country’s medal tally continued to soar at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea on Day 2 of the competition on Wednesday.
India added three medals to their overall tally on Day 3 as Yoonus Shah also claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 1500m final. On Day 2, Rupal opened India’s account with her silver medal triumph in the women’s 400m final. The quarter-miler clocked 52.68 seconds in the final to finish second and clinch silver.
Japan’s Nanako Matsumoto won the gold with her best-ever timing of 52.17 seconds, while Uzbekistan’s Jonbibi Hukmova won the bronze medal with a timing of 52.79 seconds, her personal best. Rupal’s Indian teammate, Vithya Ramraj, also competed in the final and bagged the fifth spot with a timing of 53 seconds.
Pooja won India’s second medal on Day 2 and the 4th overall after claiming a silver medal in the women’s 1500m final. Pooja clocked a timing of 4:10.83 seconds in the final to finish second, just ahead of her Indian compatriot Lili Das, who finished fourth with a timing of 4:13.81 seconds. China’s Li Chinhui won the gold medal in the women’s 1500m with timing of 4:10.58 seconds, while Japan’s Tomaka Kimura took the bronze medal after finishing third.
