Australia vs India 3rd Test, BGT: The Gabba pitch and weather report

New Delhi: Rohit and Co. will take on Australia in the third test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, December 14. Team India won the Perth Test by 295 runs but Australia made a stunning comeback and won the second Test by 10 wickets in Adelaide.

In 2021, India defeated Australia in the fourth Test by 3 wickets at same venue and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Men in Blue will look to deliver the same performance against the Australian team in the third Test.

India also need to win the remaining matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to qualify for the third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final. After the Adelaide defeat, Rohit and Co. slipped to the third spot in the WTC points table. South Africa is in the top spot on the WTC standings and Australia is in the second position.

Weather report

The weather might play spoilsport in the third Test in Brisbane as the city recorded its second-heaviest day of rainfall for 2024 on Wednesday and it is expected to rain on 4 days of the Gabba Test.

According to Accuweather, the opening day of the third Test has a 53% chance of thunderstorms and rain with the weather set to be cloudy and humid. On Day 2, a light rain is expected in the morning but after that, the weather will be humid. The conditions are expected to be the same on Day 3 and 4 with a couple of showers and then the weather will be humid with intervals of clouds and sunshine.

The Gabba Pitch report

The pitch at the Gabba has supported pace and bounce like most venues in Australia. The fast bowlers have picked up 561 wickets at an average of 31 while spinners took just 142 wickets at an average of 42 in 24 Test matches. The Gabba pitch curator has said that the surface will offer a bit more pace and bounce this time.

“Different times of year definitely makes it different, it can be a slightly different pitch. Pitches later in the season might have a bit more wear and tear while ones early in the season usually are a bit fresher and might have a bit more in them.” said curator David Sandurski as per cricket.com.au.
