Australia’s teenage call-up Sam Konstas has a ‘few plans against Indian bowlers’

New Delhi: Young Australia batter Sam Konstas is all excited for the upcoming Boxing Day Test as he is looking forward to the challenge posed by the Indian bowlers. The opener says that he already has a “few plans” for Jasprit Bumrah and co. if he gets picked in the playing XI of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia handed a maiden call-up to 19-year-old Konstas as they dropped rookie opener Nathan McSweeney for the final two India Tests.

Konstas’ inclusion comes after the disappointing performances from the top batting order of Australia in the first three Tests. “I’ve got a few plans against those (Indian) bowlers. Feeling like I’m moving really nice and hopefully I get that opportunity. I’m just going to react to the ball and show a bit of intent and put a bit of pressure back on the bowlers,” Konstas told Fox Cricket.

If Konstas gets a game on December 26, he would become Australia’s youngest Test debutant since skipper Pat Cummins, who made his Test debut for Australia when he was 18 years and 193 days old. Konstas said it would be a huge honour and a dream come true, to debut for Australia. “I’m very excited (to take on India). I want to be challenged,” the youngster said.

McSweeney congratulates Konstas

Konstas went on to reveal that McSweeney, whom he replaced in the Australian squad, congratulated him after the news of his inclusion broke out.

“Nathan McSweeney is a very good player in all three formats – he actually congratulated me this morning so we’re very close mates. I wish him all the best,” Konstas said.

Meanwhile, McSweeney admitted that he is feeling devastated after being axed for the last two BGT Tests but vowed to work harder to find his place back in the national team.
