Whether you’re looking for a quick dip, a sandwich spread, or an accompaniment to your desi meals, this chutney fits the bill. It’s wholesome, it’s versatile, and it takes just 10 minutes to make. Let’s dive into how this vibrant green delight can become your new go-to condiment.

Why Avocado?

Avocado is a nutritional powerhouse, rich in healthy fats, fibre, and essential vitamins. Although its mild flavour might seem unusual in Indian cuisine, it works beautifully when combined with assertive ingredients like garlic, green chillies, roasted cumin, and mint. The result? A chutney that is not only creamy and satisfying but also packed with zest and character.

The recipe uses Hass avocados, known for their superior creamy texture. Choose ripe avocados with slightly yielding brownish-black skin to ensure perfect blending and optimal flavour.

Here is Avocado Chutney Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe Hass avocados
  • 1 garlic pod, roughly chopped
  • ½-inch piece of ginger, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin (jeera) powder
  • 1 tsp dry mango (aamchur) powder
  • ¼ bunch fresh coriander leaves (including stems), chopped
  • 8–10 mint leaves + a few for garnish
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh yoghurt (dahi)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar (optional)
  • Salt to taste (~2 tsp)
  • Water as needed for consistency

Method:

  1. Halve the avocados, remove the seeds, and scoop out the flesh into a blender jar.
  2. Add the garlic, ginger, cumin powder, aamchur, coriander, mint, green chillies, yoghurt, lemon juice, sugar (if using), and salt to the blender.
  3. Blend everything to a smooth paste. If required, add a splash of water to adjust the consistency. Avoid adding too much water, as the chutney should remain thick and spreadable.
  4. Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh mint leaves.
  5. If not serving immediately, store it in an airtight container and refrigerate. It stays fresh for 2–3 days.
