New Delhi: Pakistan experienced a disastrous campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024 as they exited the tournament after the group stage matches. This was the second flop show at a big-ticket event by the Men in Green in almost 8 months, after they miserably failed at the 50-over World Cup in India in October-November 2023.
Post the shambolic show by the Babar Azam-led side, the team faced a lot of criticism not only with respect to their poor performance but the team, especially the skipper, was also accused of match-fixing by the a local journalist from Pakistan. Meanwhile, while the team members extended their period of stay in USA, they were directed by the Pakistan cricket board to return to the country.

Meanwhile, a video of Pakistan captain Babar was circulated on social media site X where he was seen all smiles as he landed in Lahore on Tuesday. The skipper was surrounded by fans and paparazzi as he could be seen walking out of the airport premises towards his car.

The Pakistan skipper looked in a fine mood while he arrived at the airport amid high security. Babar has been facing a lot scrutiny since his team’s poor show at the showpiece event where they were stunned by hosts USA in the group stage fixture before going down to arch-rivals India in another group stage match.
Pakistan finished third in the Group A while India and USA progressed to the Super Eight stage. Babar, who was at helm during the 50-over World Cup in India in 2023, stepped down from the role after the team’s dismal run at the big-ticket event. Few months after and keeping in mind the T20 World Cup and an unsatisfactory work by Shaheen Afridi, Azam was reinstated by the PCB as the white ball skipper.
