Bangladesh Bank Sets Tk 1Lakh Cash Withdrawal Limit For Today In Verbal Order

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Wednesday verbally ordered banks to not allow cash withdrawals above the cash limit of Tk 1 lakh amid the ongoing unstable violent situation in the country after Sheikh Hasina‘s resignation.

The information was later confirmed by a senior official familiar with the central bank.

As per reports, the bank gave this instruction in an urgent message to the managing directors or MDs of the bank last night. As per the suggested guidelines, even if a customer cannot withdraw cash, they can transfer any amount of cash and do digital transactions.

Furthermore, the Bangladeshi Central Bank has asked banks, if possible stop transferring amid weak security due to the absence of security personnel on the streets.

The banking regulator also suggested encouraging the customers to pay their parties through crossed checks.

The South Asian country will now be run by an interim government which will be headed by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus.

After the announcement, Yunus who was in Paris for the Olympics appealed to the people to maintain peace. “Violence is our enemy. Please don’t create more enemies. Be calm and get ready to build the country,” he said.

“We are making every effort to hold the oath-taking ceremony tomorrow (Thursday). There was a proposal to hold it in the afternoon. However, that would result in a very tight schedule because Dr Yunus is expected to arrive in the country around 2:10 pm. It would be difficult to arrange the ceremony after that. Therefore, we may hold it around 8 pm. The arrangement will accommodate a total of 400 people,” the Army Chief said in a televised address to the nation.
