Kolkata: The Reserve Bank of India rules state that banks across the country will be closed for physical business every month on two Saturdays, apart from all Sundays. On these Saturdays, the branches of banks are closed to the public. Even if you find any employee of banks visitng a branch to perform/finish their work, it will be outside the normal course of business. The customers of banks cannot visit branches to get any work done, even if it for some commonplace work like updating a savings account passbook. These Saturdays when the branches of banks will remain closed for the public are every second and fourth Saturday of a month.
According to this rule, the branches of banks will remain open for physical business today, Saturday, January 18, 2025. Today is the third Saturday of January, and therefor, there will be no holiday. It is also clear from this policy that branches of banks will be closed on January 25 (since it will be the fourth Saturday of the month).
Republic Day is on Sunday

Those who need to visit the branches of banks to get their work done should note that Republic Day on January 26 has fallen on Sunday. Had it been on some other day of the week, banks would have been closed across the country.
According to a list of holidays circulated by the Reserve Bank of India January has a few holidays. Going by that list, it is seen that there were holidays on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. It was due to Makar Sankranti/ Uttarayana Punyakala and Pongal will be observed is several states of India. These are harvest festivals.
