New Delhi: Heatwave continues to grapple many regions of north India, however amid this, some parts of Delhi received light rain on Monday. This, no doubt seemed to be one of the most awaited wishes of Delhiites but despite the relief from the heatwave, the light rain has left the national capital battling with another hot, sultry day and high humidity levels. The maximum temperature went to around 40 degrees after two days. The concerns lingering around health conditions do not get over with the rains, high humidity after rain can impact health in several ways.
Dr L. Sudarshan Reddy, Consultant Physician, Yashoda Hospitals Hyderabad told News9, “High humidity can create a conducive environment for mould and dust mites, which can exacerbate allergies and asthma. High humidity can also lead to increased perspiration and discomfort, potentially causing heat-related illnesses if temperatures are high.”
“Regarding flu and cold prevention, high humidity can affect the spread of these viruses. Flu viruses, for instance, tend to survive longer in dry conditions, so very high humidity might reduce their lifespan. However, crowded indoor environments due to rain can facilitate the spread of colds and flu,” added Dr Reddy.
