BCCI adds three IPL stars to India’s squad for Zimbabwe T20Is

New Delhi: Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the return of Team India, the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) has replaced three stranded stars with young guns of Indian Premier League (IPL) for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal are stuck in the Caribbean due to Hurricane Beryl. The trio is part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victorious squad, which is forced to wait in Barbados due to adverse weather conditions. As the rest of the Indian squad has already departed for Zimbabwe, the Men’s Selection Committee has opted to replace Samson, Dube and Jaiswal, whose date of arrival is still not certain.

The lucky three are: Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma and Harshit Rana, who have been brought in as replacements for for the first two T20Is against Zimbabwe.

The trio, along with the World Cup-winning team will aboard a charter flight on Tuesday evening and arrive in India on Wednesday at around 7.45pm (IST).

Upon arriving in homeland, the victorious team will be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed and batter Rinku Singh, who travelled to the Americas as reserves for the T20 World Cup, are also stranded in Barbados. Both players are also in the squad for the Zimbabwe T20Is but the Indian cricket board hasn’t named replacements for the duo so far.

Sudharsan is currently playing county cricket for Surrey at the Oval in London. He is expected to leave for Harare immediately.
