New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup T20. The tournament is scheduled to start from July 19 to 28 in Sri Lanka.
Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side in this edition of the tournament, and Smriti Mandhana named vice-captain. A total of eight teams will be participating in the tournament. The Women in Blue are the defending champions of the last edition and will look to defend their title in Sri Lanka.
India defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the final and are favourites to lift the trophy once again. The Indian team is placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Nepal, and UAE. Hosts Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand are placed in Group B.
Richa Ghosh and Uma Chetry are the wicket-keepers included in the squad while Shweta Sehrawat, Saika Ishaque, Tanuja Kanwer and Meghna Singh are named as travelling reserves. Amanjot Kaur and Shabnam Shakil are the two players from the current team that is playing T20I series against South Africa are not included in the squad.
The Women in Blue will open their Asia Cup campaign against arch-rival Pakistan on July 19. After that, They will face UAE on July 21 and Nepal on July 23.
