BCCI considering Saudi cities to host mega IPL auction – Report

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to host the mega Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in two cities of Saudi Arabia. While nothing concrete has been decided yet, but it is being said that Jeddah and Riyadh are in the minds of the Indian cricket board. The city of Dubai, in the UAE, is another city which is in the option list but it is positioned down in the queue.

The mega IPL auction is set to take place in the month of November. According to a report published in Cricbuzz, finding a suitable location – a hotel or venue for the mega event is getting a bit difficult for the Indian cricket board. The report further says that the prices for the venues in the Saudi cities is much higher to that of the cities in the UAE. Dubai hosted the previous auction in December 2023 and the BCCI did not have to shell a gigantic amount for it.

Venue identification becomes tough

The pricing for the venue should not be a worrying factor for either the IPL Governing Council or the BCCI. The IPL is undoubtedly the richest league in the world and the BCCI happens to be the richest cricket board in the world. The big challenge that is being faced is that where to host the event.

According to a previous report in Cricbuzz, it was said that London was also in the minds of the BCCI and IPL for hosting the big event but considering the weather in the city during this part of the year, it had to be cancelled. The temperature in London in November will be cold and the Indian cricket board is against hosting the event in the cold weather.

The BCCI and IPL are now looking for a such a place which can host the event for two days and also accommodate the big brigade of IPL, including the 10 franchise delegation and two sponsors – Jio and Disney.

The IPL mega auction is set to take place in the month of November. The BCCI and IPL are busy finalising the location for the two-day event.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
