New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) fast bowler Ishant Sharma was heavily fined by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct during his side’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025 on Sunday, April 06. Ishant was fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for his offence.

In a statement, IPL confirmed that Ishant breached Article 2.2 of the IPL’s code of conduct which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match”. Ishant was penalised by match referee Javagal Srinath and accepted the sanction for a level one offence. The pacer endured a dismal day with the ball as he was taken to the cleaners by the SRH batters.

Ishant ended up conceding 53 runs off his four overs and went wicketless in the game. He was tasked to bowl in the death overs by skipper Shubman Gill and was smashed all around the park by SRH skipper Pat Cummins. Ishant was the only weak link for GT in an otherwise disciplined bowling effort from GT as they managed to restrict SRH to 152/8 in 20 overs.

Ishant is not the first player to be fined for breaching IPL’s code of conduct in the ongoing season as the likes of Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag, and Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant have all been penalised for different offences.

Gujarat Titans beat SRH to clinch 3rd straight win

Gujarat Titans rode on a brilliant knock of unbeaten 61 off 43 balls from skipper Shubman Gill and crucial knocks from Washington Sundar (49) and Sherfane Rutherford (35) to chase down the target of 153 runs with 20 balls to spare and register a thumping victory in Hyderabad. It was Gujarat Titans’ third straight win as they climbed to the second spot on the IPL 2025 points table.

Gujarat Titans lost their opening game of the season against Punjab Kings but have since bounced back to beat Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last three matches to regain momentum.
