New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana on Saturday was roped in as an injury replacement for Shreyanka Patil in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s squad for Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season. Patil, who was part of the squad initially, was ruled out of the rest of the tournament because of her shin injury.

The Karnataka all-rounder was a vital cog in the team’s phenomenal success last season, lifting the trophy after finishing on the last spot in the inaugural edition. The off-spinner claimed 13 wickets in eight matches at an average of 12.07 and economy rate of 7.30 to finish as the leading wicket-taker of WPL 2024. Patil’s unavailability comes another blow for the Smriti Mandhana-led team which has already faced a slew of injuries and players opting out ahead of the season.

Sneh Rana has played 25 T20 International matches for India and also represented the Gujarat Giants in the first two seasons of the WPL for 12 games. She bats in the lower middle-order and offers off-spin in the middle overs. She has scored 47 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 97.91 while returning with six wickets at an economy of 9.02.

Rana has also captained Gujarat Giants in seven games of the first season after Australian opener Beth Mooney was ruled out in the initial stage.

RCB starts title defence with record-winning chase

Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Giants by six wickets in the opening match of WPL 2025 on Friday, February 14. The team recorded the highest successful chase in the WPL history after seeing off 202 runs with nine balls to spare. Thanks to the explosive knocks from youngsters Richa Ghosh (64 off 27 balls) and Kanika Ahuja (30 off 13 balls) after Ellyse Perry set the tone with an impressive 34-ball 57. Renuka Singh Thakur (2 for 35) was exceptional with the ball after the team was hammered by Gujarat captain Ashleigh Garner (79 not out off 37 balls).
