New Delhi: The second One-Day International match between India and England was halted for a while due to the failure of floodlights at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday. For around 20 minutes, the players were off the field before taking the field once the lights were back on the field.
During the seventh over of the Indian innings, Saqib Mahmood bowled to Shubman Gill with the opener picking up a single to get off the strike. Both openers Rohit and Gill along with the 11 England fielders had to walk away from the field after one of the floodlights at the venue stopped functioning.
The whole tower of the floodlights went off. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was disappointed and spoke to the on-field umpires. The players were seen chatting outside the field area before the play resumed as the floodlights beamed on the pitch.
However, many of the spectators watching the game, did question the venue facility and held the Indian cricket board (BCCI) accountable for the shortcoming in the middle of the game.

Floodlight goes off in Cuttack.
BCCI is the richest board yet they are still having these technical issues. pic.twitter.com/q7qH3o2KRY

Is this 2025 or 1995? Floodlight malfunction is in no way acceptable – even as a rare instance – in any international cricket match, let alone in India!

Rohit Sharma provides solid start to India
Indian opener Rohit Sharma gave a rollicking start to the hosts in the 305-run chase. He smashed five boundaries and four sixes, making the best use of the field-restricted overs in the mandatory powerplay with the likes of Saqib Mahmood and Gus Atkinson facing the wrath of his blazing shots. The Indian skipper completed his 58th half-century in the ODI format. He also went on to complete 100-run opening stand with youngster Shubman Gill.
The second India vs England ODI in Cuttack was temporarily suspended due to a floodlight failure at the Barabati Stadium. The incident occurred during the Indian innings, causing a 20-minute delay. The malfunction sparked criticism of the BCCI and raised concerns about stadium infrastructure. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
