New Delhi: Coco Gauff continued her remarkable run at the French Open 2025 with another impressive win to stay on course for her second Grand Slam title. The second-seeded American brushed aside Russia’s 20th-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5 to enter her fifth straight Roland Garros quarterfinal, and a ninth overall at the slams.

The straight-sets win in the last-16 means Gauff hasn’t dropped a set yet at the French Open 2025.

Gauff will next face fellow American Madison Keys or the unseeded 23-year-old Hayley Baptiste.

Following the win, Gauff said: “Yeah it was tough, obviously. Overall, I thought I played great. Definitely I think I move well on clay, I’m really comfortably sliding. The physicality – this is the most physical surface for sure, and I do well on that.”

Meanwhile, sixth seed Mirra Andreeva battled past Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals.

Like Gauff, the Russian is also yet to drop a set, and the pair remains on course to meet in the semifinals.

Gauff continues dominating run

Gauff has put her opponents on high alert with a dominating run in the quest for a second Grand Slam title and first since the US Open 2023. In the last-16 clash against Alexandrova, she played with a ruthless approach and unmatched accuracy, breaking the 20th seed on all three occasions to go 5-0 up.

The USA star was off the blocks in the opening set, winning twice as many return points (63%) to set the tone.

Alexandrova wasted four opportunities to break Gauff and win her first game, but several unforced forehand errors kept Gauff alive. After losing two set points, Gauff sealed the bagel – a 6-0 set score – inside 27 minutes, on her third set point.

Zverev through after Tallon Griekspoor retires

Meanwhile, unseeded Dutch star Tallon Griekspoor retired hurt midway through his fourth-round match with Alexander Zverev. The German, who was leading 6-4, 3-0, progressed to the quarterfinals and will either face world no.1 Jannik Sinner or Andy Rublev in the last-8.

While the exact nature of the injury is yet to be revealed, Griekspoor was seen struggling with an injury throughout the match and had his abdomen taped.
