BCCI secretary Jay Shah announces big support for Olympic athletes including Neeraj Chopra

New Delhi: In a major boost for Indian athletes, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has revealed that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be available for non-cricketing athletes including the likes of Neeraj Chopra, who won a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The BCCI continues its support to the Indian athletes and the Indian Olympic Association in athletes’ development.

Now in another good move by the Indian Cricket Board, Secretary Jay Shah has announced that the new NCA is nearing completion and will soon be open not only for cricketers but also for athletes from other sporting disciplines.

NCA available for non-cricketers

“We are going to make it available for Olympic sportspersons too, like Neeraj Chopra,” Jay Shah said during an interview with the TOI.

Shah conveyed this information to Neeraj Chopra during a recent meeting with the double Olympics medallist. The state-of-the-art facility facility will have three grounds and 100 pitches, including 45 indoor turfs.

Similar to Gabba in Brisbane, and Kingsmead in Durban, the centre will boast all kinds of pitches to give the Indian team perfect conditions to practise before travelling for an overseas assignment.

Laxman to remain NCA boss

Shah also revealed that Indian batting great VVS Laxman, the head of the NCA, will continue to assume the role. Laxman’s contract will expire in September and reports were rife that the former India batter will leave the Bengaluru facility. But Shah has more or less confirmed that the BCCI will renew his contract.

Shah, earlier, this month announced the unveiling of the new NCA, which will boast world-class infrastructure, designed to provide the best possible environment for cricketers to hone their skills.

The new facility will have three international-standard playing stadiums, including 45 practice pitches. It will also house indoor cricket pitches, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and cutting-edge training, recovery, and sports science facilities.

Jay Shah had earlier revealed that the new state-of-the-art facility will have three grounds and 100 pitches, including 45 indoor turfs.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
