BCCI to provide Rs 8.5 crore to IOA to support Indian contingent at Paris Olympics 2024

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has pledged to donate Rs 8.5 crore to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to support Indian athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024. BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, July 21 to wish the Indian contingent the best of luck for their campaign while confirming BCCI’s contribution to the IOA.

India will be sending a 117-strong contingent for the Paris Olympics, just four shy of their record tally from the last edition in Tokyo. India won a total of seven medals, including one gold in Tokyo 2020 to record their best-ever performance in an Olympics and the athletes will be hoping to better the medals tally in Paris this year.

“I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign. To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind,” Shah said in a tweet.

BCCI’s contribution comes after the Indian cricket board was criticised by many for not doing enough for other sports in the country despite being the richest cricketing board in the world. The criticism surfaced after BCCI announced a whopping prize money of Rs 125 crore for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team for winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title.
