BCCI vice-president provides big update on India’s Champions Trophy 2025 participation in Pakistan

New Delhi: After Team India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, the focus now shifted to the upcoming Champions Trophy and World Test Championship. Defending champions Pakistan will host the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy in February 2025.

The tournament will be played for the first time since 2017 and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already started their preparations for the tournament. However, according to recent media reports, Team India is unlikely to travel to Pakistan and the BCCI will ask the ICC to shift their matches to Sri Lanka or Dubai.

The same situation arose in Asia Cup 2023 when BCCI didn’t agree to send their team to Pakistan. Hence the tournament was played in a hybrid model with Sri Lanka hosting most of the matches including the knockout stages and the final match.

But After the Asia Cup, Babar Azam and Co. travelled to India to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has already confirmed Team India’s participation in the upcoming ICC event.

The PCB is also firm on its stand and has already said that the board won’t move the tournament out of the country. If Rohit Sharma and Co. didn’t travel and opt out of the tournament then Sri Lanka will replace India as the 8th team.

However, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shuka has denied all the media reports and said that the board has not put any official information regarding the matter.

“We do not know which source gave such information. BCCI has not put out any official information regarding this” Shukla told The Print.

India to face Pakistan in Lahore: Reports

According to a report, The PCB has already submitted a draft schedule to ICC. Team India is placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. While Australia, South Africa, England and Afghanistan are placed in Group B.

If BCCI accepts PCB’s proposal, Rohit Sharma and Co. will play all their matches in Lahore and will face Pakistan on March 1.
