New Delhi: Former England pacer James Anderson, who retired from international cricket on Friday, was spotted bowling to skipper Ben Stokes’ children at the Lord’s Cricket Ground after playing his final Test match against West Indies. Anderson picked up four wickets across both innings, helping England thrash West Indies by an innings and 114 runs in the 1st Test of the three-match series to finish on a high.
Anderson managed to pick up only 1 wicket in West Indies’ first innings as the visitors were bowled out for a paltry 121 runs. The veteran pacer followed it up with a three-wicket haul in their second innings as West Indies got skittled out for 136 runs to suffer a heavy defeat in the Test match. West Indies wicket-keeper batter Joshua Da Silva became Anderson’s final victim in his last Test.
Following the conclusion of the memorable match, Anderson was seen playing cricket with a group of children, including Stokes’ kids. Sharing a video of the same from ESPN Cricinfo, the England Test skipper said his children might not have an idea who they were playing with but one day they will realise Anderson’s legacy.
“My daughter batting and my son doing the fielding, they got no idea but one day they will @jimmy9,” Stokes wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Anderson misses out on Warne’s record
Anderson retired from Test cricket as England’s leading wicket-taker of all time and the third-highest wicket-taker overall with 704 wickets to his name in 188 Test matches. Anderson remains the only fast bowler in Test history with more than 700 wickets to his name. He had a chance to go past Warne (707) as the second-highest wicket-taker of all time in Tests but missed out closely.
Anderson will now mentor the England pacers as they prepare for the Ashes next year. Skipper Stokes and the England team management had already made it clear that the Lord’s Test will be Anderson’s last as they want to focus on preparing their pace attack for the future. Nonetheless, Anderson will go down as the most successful pacer in the history of Test cricket.
