How can a reinvented Alvaro Morata help AC Milan reclaim glory?

New Delhi: Alvaro Morata had a brilliant Euro campaign for the Spanish national side as he captained La Roja to their historic fourth Euro title. He didn’t have the personal best tournament as he only managed to score one goal throughout the campaign, but he certainly took up the role of being a leader and guided his team to glory. Before the Euro campaign started, there were doubts about him being the Spanish side’s captain. Morata was never given the role of a captain, which raised further questions on why he is being given the role of captaincy. but he took the charge and proved to be a good leader for a young Spanish side.

However, the 31-year-old striker had a great season for Atletico Madrid before Euro 2024 kicked off as he scored 21 goals in all competitons for Diego Simeone’s side. As the Euro 2024 campaign came to an end, he joined AC Milan, after he had his physical test for the Rossoneri. He has a four-year contract worth €5 million net annually, with the possibility of a fifth. The Diavolo will pay a €13 million fee to sign him because of his release clause.

Morata also stated that one of the main reasons why he chose Milan was due to the fact that one of the football great, Zlatan Ibrahimovic himself recommended Milan to sign the Spaniard. Besides, the club has shown great support and he will be getting a warm welcome from the fans.

It looks less likely that Morata will be given the arm band in the very first season, but he will still have a major role to play in the locker room. The Euro winning captain has a lot of experience after playing for some of the best clubs including the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Milan’s league rivals Juventus. Morata has won 18 titles across Europe and he looks like the most suitable replacement for Olivier Giroud, who recently left Rossoneri to join MLS club LAFC.

The Spaniard certainly has experience playing in Serie A, after playing a combined total of four seasons for Juventus. He knows the league well and after winning the Euro title, he would be much more confident after captaining his national side in an Historic Euro triumph. He will certainly prove to be a crucial figure for Paolo Fonseca’s side where there are some young players who would truly benefit form his locker room presence.

Morata formed a brilliant partership with Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid, where both the forwards had 30+ goals between them as the duo looked threatening throughout the season. Morata proved quite handy for Diego Simeone’s side as he managed to score 15 league goals and was a complete work horse upfront. The 31-year-old was a crucial player for the Atletico side, and his performances gave glimpses of his ability to play as a second centre forward.

Despite the leadership and his approach to guide the Spanish side to glory, Morata didn’t have the best campaign when it came to his individual performance with just two goal contributions throughout the campaign. However, his off the ball movement, and the ability to make runs to create spaces for his impressive wingers was spot on. Besides, his workrate truly made up for the low numbers he had, as he was running tirelessly in each of the games.

However, one thing that will actually benefit the AC Milan side after getting his signature is the wonderful amount of work he puts on the pitch. He would benefit a lot if Milan provide him with a second striker, playing alongside. His link up play with his forward partner would help Milan get the results and he might have a successful season with the Rossoneri.

As Alvaro Morata joins AC Milan after leading his national side to the Euro title, expectations are high from the 31-year-old as he was personally recommended by Milan senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
