New Delhi: England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes achieved a giant milestone during the second day (Monday) of England vs West Indies ongoing 1st Test at Lord’s as he joined the cricket legends – West Indies’ Gary Sobers and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis in a rare list. Stokes has become the third cricketer globally and the first hailing from England to complete an elite Test double.
Amassing over 6000 runs and bagging 200 wickets in Test cricket, Stokes has added his name to the elite list. He accomplished it by securing his 200th wicket as he dismissed West Indies’ Kirk McKenzie during their second innings. Stokes has featured in 103 Tests for England so far and now has 200 scalps to his credit. He has accumulated 6,320 runs at an average of 35.30, including 13 tons and 31 fifties, the highest score being 258.
West Indies great Sobers recorded 8,032 runs and 235 wickets in 93 Tests, while Jacques Kallis’ tally soars with 13,289 runs and 292 wickets in 166 Tests. Meanwhile, Stokes also distinguishes himself as only the sixth player in the world and the first from England to achieve a double of 10,000 runs and 300 wickets across all the formats of international cricket.

Stokes’ career brims with 10,368 runs at an average of 35.75, having played 260 international games. He has scored 18 centuries and 56 half-centuries, the highest score being 258. He has already accomplished the milestone of 300 wickets across formats. The other five cricketers to have bagged a similar milestone are – Car Hooper from West Indies, Sanath Jayasuriya from Sri Lanka, Jacques Kallis, Shahid Afridi from Pakistan, and Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan.

Starting their English summer, the Three Lions opted to field first against the West Indies who were dismissed for 121 runs in 41.4 overs, struggling to build partnerships. England in response struck 371 runs in 90 overs and the Windies currently progress their second innings, having scored 79 at the cost of six wickets in 34.5 overs and trailing by 171 runs at the end of Day 2.
