New Delhi: Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant extended his best wishes to the Indian athletes ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. The showpiece event is set to get underway on July 24 with Indian beginning their campaign on July 25. India have sent a 117-strong contingent for the Paris Games and will be hoping to better their medals tally from the last edition in Tokyo.
Indian athletes won seven medals, including one gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in what was the country’s best-ever performance in the history of the quadrennial event. India have several medal contenders in their contingent, who will be hoping to clinch glory in Paris. Ahead of the start of India’s campaign, Pant wished the athletes luck and urged the nation to rally behind them in their quest for greatness.
“May the tricolour fly high at Paris. Wishing our Indian Olympic athletes all the best for Paris 2024,” Pant wrote in a tweet with a video of himself sending a message to the Indian contingent.
“Hello India, let’s come together and support our Indian Olympic athletes who’ve been working tirelessly throughout the years to make our country proud. Let’s show our appreciation for their hard work as they shine on the biggest stage of the world,” Pant said in the video.

High hopes from Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu
Neeraj Chopra scripted history for India in the Tokyo Games as he became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in track and field. Chopra finished on the top of the podium in the men’s javelin throw and became only the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to bag an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
Meanwhile, PV Sindhu bagged a bronze medal in women’s singles badminton to become only the second Indian athlete after Sushil Kumar to win two Olympic medals. Sindhu won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 where she went down against Carolina Marin in the final.
Both Neeraj and Sindhu will be spearheading India’s challenge at the Paris Olympics 2024 this year and will be looking to return with a medal once again this year. While Neeraj will be looking to defend his javelin crown, Sindhu will be hoping to become India’s most successful Olympian with a third straight individual medal.
