New Delhi: Team India will face Australia in the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, December 14. The last time Team India played at the venue, Rahane and Co. defeated Australia on the last day of the fourth Test to clinch the series by 2-1.
India won the first Test of the ongoing five-match Test series but the hosts made a sensational comeback and won the second Test by 10 wickets to level the series at 1-1. Rohit and Co. slipped to third position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table after the defeat.
The Men in Blue need to win all the remaining matches to qualify for the third consecutive WTC final. Apart from India, West Indies have also defeated the Aussies at the Gabba in January 2024. The Australian players had long pushed for the Gabba to remain as the first Test of the summer, where its pace and bounce expose the fragilities of touring players.
‘Pitches early in the season usually are a bit fresher and might have a bit more pace and bounce in them’: Gabba pitch curator
The Gabba pitch curator spoke to the media on Wednesday and said that the Gabba pitch is slightly different at the start of the season. He further added that the pitches later in the season might have a bit more wear and tear, but early in the season, they are fresher and offer a bit more pace and bounce.
“Different times of year definitely makes it different, it can be a slightly different pitch,” Gabba curator David Sandurski was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au ahead of the third Test beginning Saturday.
“Pitches later in the season might have a bit more wear and tear while ones early in the season usually are a bit fresher and might have a bit more in them. Generally speaking, we still prepare the pitch the exact same way every time to try and get the same good carry, pace and bounce that the Gabba is known for. We are just trying to make a traditional Gabba wicket like we do each year” he added.
