New Delhi: Australia will take on India in the fifth and last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday, December 3. The Aussies are leading the five-match Test series by 2-1 and will look to win the Sydney Test.
Rohit and Co. suffered a big setback ahead of the crucial test. Fast bowler Akash Deep will miss the last match due to a stiff back confirmed Gautam Gambhir in the press conference on Thursday. He has picked up five wickets in two Test matches in Brisbane and Melbourne but was a bit unlucky with several catches dropped off his bowling in the ongoing series.
The pacer has bowled a total of 87.5 overs across two Test matches and it could have been a case of a slightly more bowling workload in the fourth Test. The hard Australian grounds could cause knee ankle and back issues for fast bowlers. If Akash Deep misses the last Test, Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna will replace him in the playing XI for the last Test
Meanwhile, Australian Pat Cummins announced the playing XI for the final Test match of the series. Fast bowling All-rounder Beau Webster will make his debut in the last match, replacing Mitchell Marsh in the playing XI. Mitchell Starc is also fit to play the New Year’s Test but is carrying a rib niggle.

If the Men in Blue manage to win the Sydney Test, they will keep their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final alive. South Africa have already qualified for the WTC final after beating Pakistan in the first Test.
