Bihar to Telangana: States with highest and lowest inflation in August 2024

New Delhi: Retail inflation rose to 3.65 per cent in August 2024 from 3.60 per cent in July, according to official data. However, several states in India reported higher inflation than the national print. While 8 states reported lower than 8 per cent inflation, 3 states’ inflation was higher than 5 per cent.

States with lowest inflation rates in India

While Telangana reported 2.02 per cent inflation in August, Uttarakhand’s inflation stood at 2.37 per cent. Punjab’s inflation print came in at 2.95 per cent. Karnataka, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh reported lower than 3 per cent inflation in August 2024. Delhi’s inflation rate inched up to 2.52 per cent in August from 2.06 per cent in July.

Up to 4 per cent inflation reported in these states

Chhattisgarh reported 3.79 per cent in August 2024 while Gujarat’s inflation rate stood at 3.33 per cent. Madhya Prices rose by 3.21 per cent in Madhya Pradesh. Inflation in Jammue and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra stood in the range of 3.07-3.35 per cent range. West Bengal reported 3.63 per cent inflation in the month of August, according to data shared by MoSPI.

India’s inflation print inches up in August

India’s inflation rate inched up to 3.65 per cent in August from 360 per cent in July as food inflation jumped back to 5.66 per cent from 5.42 per cent a month ago. According to 3 economists, core inflation remained almost flat at 3.30-3.40 per cent in August, Reuters reported. Food inflation remained higher owing to a continued surge in the price of vegetables, dals, and cereals apart from fruits and milk.
