Bizarre! Craziness unfolds in Maharaja T20 Trophy game with historic first-ever triple super-over

New Delhi: History was scripted in the cricketing world on Friday as a KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy encounter between Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy stadium witnessed three super overs being bowled. This is the first time since the inception of the concept that three super overs were required to decide the fate of the game. Till now, fans have witnessed a maximum of two super overs being bowled but this match truly became one of its kind.

The 40-over affair

In one of the most dramatic games witnessed ever, Hubli Tigers, after batting first, posted a first innings total of 164 runs. The likes of Mohammed Taha, skipper Manish Pandey and Aneeshwar Gautam made some handy contribution with the bat to help the team reach a respectable total. For the Blasters, Lavish Kaushal was the pick of the bowlers leading with a five-wicket haul.

During the chase, Bengaluru Blasters, who required 165 runs to win, were led by skipper Mayank Agarwal who top-scored with 54 runs in just 34 deliveries, offering the perfect start for the team. However, the skipper could hardly find support from the other end as Tigers bowlers Manvanth Kumar wreaked havoc with a four-fer. An effort made with the bat by Naveen MG, who scored 11-ball 23, gave some hope to the Blasters as they managed to tie the contest and the game went into the first super over.

Triple Super Over Drama

In the first super over. Blasters, who batted first, set a target of 11 runs while the Tigers only got to 10 runs which resulted in a tie taking the match into the second super over. In the second one, Tigers batted first and Blasters, while chasing, failed to get to the 9-run mark, taking the game into the third super over for the first time as a result of another tie. Finally in the third super over, Blasters set a target of 13 runs for Tigers and the latter successfully chased it off the last ball with a striking boundary.
