Milwaukee: A black man named Dvontaye Mitchell died after being pinned down by the security guard at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Milwaukee on June 30. According to police, he caused a problem inside the hotel, and security guards escorted him outside the hotel.
A video surfaced on social media, in which security guards can be seen holding Mitchell down. In the video, he can be seen saying “please” and “I’m sorry” many times.
In the video, a guard tells Mitchell to “stay down” and “stop fighting” while other security guards restrain him. The same guard then yells to bystanders, “This is what happens when you go into the ladies room.”
It is still unclear about what happened inside the hotel before the security guards held Mitchell down and why he was inside the hotel.
When the police arrived, Mitchell was unresponsive. The police said that they tried to save Mitchell’s life and took lifesaving measures, but he succumbed.
According to Karen Domagalski from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, Mitchell’s death on a preliminary basis seems to be a matter of homicide, while further things will be clear after investigation.
Mitchell’s family is still trying to figure out the tragedy that happened to them.
DeAsia Harmon, Mitchell’s widow, said that whenever Mitchell’s children watch television, they are reminded of how their father passed away. “Her daughter can’t even go to the grocery store as she is afraid of the security guard outside.”
Following the incident, media outlets are reporting that the security guards involved have been suspended while further investigation is being undertaken by the police.
