New Delhi: 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed an explosive half-century to help Rajasthan Royals (RR) end their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign on a high with a six-wicket victory against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday, May 20.

RR rode on Suryavanshi’s half-century and crucial knocks from skipper Sanju Samson and Druv Jurel to comfortably chase down the target of 188 runs with 17 balls to spare to bag their fourth win of the tournament in their final game of the season. RR earned the bragging rights over CSK in what was a clash for pride between the two bottom-placed teams, who are already out of the playoffs.

Continuing his impressive run in his debut season for RR, teenage sensation Suryavanshi hammered a blistering knock of 57 runs off 33 balls laced with four sixes and as many fours to notch up his second fifty-plus score of the season and help RR end their chase hoodoo. The 14-year-old flexed his hitting prowess, taking the CSK bowlers to the cleaners with his young muscles.

In pursuit of the 188-run target, RR got off to a flyer courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who dominated the proceedings in the first four overs with a quickfire 19-ball 36. Suryavanshi didn’t get enough balls in the Powerplay, but once he settled in, the 14-year-old showcased why he is the cynosure of all eyes this season.

RR end chase hoodoo against CSK

Suryavanshi joined hands with RR skipper Sanju Samson to continue the momentum after Jaiswal’s dismissal and the duo made a mockery of the CSK bowling attack with their aggressive batting. While Suryavanshi notched up 57 off 33 balls, Samson looked in fine touch en route his 41 off 31 balls. The duo added a 98-run stand for the second wicket to bat CSK out of the game.

Dhruv Jurel added the finishing touches with a cracking cameo of 12-ball 31 as RR didn’t falter this time around to get home comfortably in the 188-run chase. RR had lost 8 out of 9 matches while chasing earlier this season amid continuous failure to step up from their lower middle order. However, Jurel stood up to ensure he got the team over the line comfortably on Tuesday to help them end the season with a consolation victory.

CSK’s woeful run continues in IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings’ woeful run continued in the ongoing IPL 2025 as they slipped to their 10th defeat of the season in 13 matches. With only three wins so far this season, CSK continue to remain at the bottom of the points table and are likely to finish last unless they pull off a huge win against Gujarat Titans in their final match of the season on May 25.

On Tuesday, CSK got off to a shaky start after being asked to bat first in the game as they lost opener Devon Conway and Urvil Patel in the same over. However, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre helped them stage a brilliant comeback with a fiery knock of 43 runs off 20 balls, adding a crucial 56-run stand with R Ashwin, who was sent out to bat at no.4 and contributed 13 off 8 balls.

CSK looked set for a big total after Dewald Brevis’s 25-ball 42 provided the impetus in the middle overs. However, Dhoni’s struggles as a finisher were left exposed once again this season as the Men in Yellow could only manage 187 in 20 overs after Dhoni managed only 16 off 17 balls, failing to produce the big shots.

The bowlers produced a horrendous show during RR’s chase, which ended up costing CSK the game. While Khaleel Ahmed failed to strike with the new ball, R Ashwin was taken for runs despite taking two wickets. Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja also ended up conceding heavily as RR enjoyed a walk in the park in the chase at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

CSK have had a forgettable season with just three wins from 13 matches and will be hoping to end their campaign on a high when they take on Gujarat Titans in their last game in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 25.
