Blow to UFC Fight Night 252 card as Edson Barboza pulls out of featherweight fight

New Delhi: In a massive blow to UFC Fight Night 252 card in Seattle, fighter Edson Barboza has pulled out of his featherweight clash due to an undisclosed injury. This comes as an addition to the series of setbacks that the fight night has witnessed. The 39-year-old Brazilian fighter was set to take part in the fight but he informed that he is pulling out as doesn’t think he can give it his best.

His fight was schedules against American professional mixed martial artist Steve Garcia, who is a big name in the UFC circle. Thus, the main card of the upcoming event has suffered serious blow and made it even weaker as it has already suffered two big call-offs recently. The Fight Night thus won’t be able to attract that many followers, believe the organisers.

Dominick Cruz out of his retirement match

The first news that hit the UFC Fight Card was that former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz pulled out of his retirement fight against Rob Font due to a shoulder injury. This did not end here and led to Cruz hanging up his gloves from the sport. Additionally, a heavyweight fight between Curtis Blaydes and Rizvan Kuniev was shifted from the UFC Fight Night 252 to UFC Fight Night 313 next month instead.

In addition, number five ranked women’s bantamweight contender Macy Chiasson has also dropped out of the card due to an injury, undisclosed. Chiasson was set to fight against number three placed Ketlen Vieira of Brazil. Keeping in mind so many serious injury concerns and pull-outs, the UFC brought in some reinforcements in place with fighter Alonzo Menifield set to fight against debutant Julius Walker while Nursulton Ruziboev drafted into a fight against newbie Eric McConico.

While the UFC fight night has lost its sheen after so many pull-outs, organisers have tried their best to bring in replacements so as to keep the entertainment alive.

Before Edson Barboza, ex-bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz walked away of his retirement fight against Rob Font because of a shoulder injury.  UFC Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
