Bolstered by the election results, Kerala BJP to focus on 60 seats for the 2026 polls

Ernakulam : The Kerala unit of the BJP is looking to broaden its vote base and public outreach programmes, especially among the minorities after the saffron party’s increased vote share and after opening its account in Thrissur.

The core committee meet that concluded in Ernakulam has identified 60 assembly constituencies where the party feel that it can manage to win as these constituencies has witnessed a major voter shift towards the party – both from the Congress and the CPI(M).

We have identified a large chunk of constituencies where the party has managed to make inroads. This include regions from Thrissur, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram, Kasaragod, Kollam and other districts. Traditional voters of the CPM has now moved on to the BJP and this very evident in their strongholds like Kannur and Alappuzha. Also in the current scenario in Kannur, we will work hard in these places and will ensure that we are able to improve our tallies in the 2025 Local body polls and then the assembly elections in 2026”, said C Krishna Kumar, state General Secretary, BJP, Kerala to TV9.

He also added that the party will reach out the minorities in the state and try winning their confidence.

Alleging that the CPM has introduced the bill for delimitation of local body wards to ensure its victory in the local body elections, BJP state president K Surendran said that the BJP will form committees at panchayat level to expose unscientific delimitation of wards. The party will oppose the move politically and legally.

Preparing for the assembly polls in 2026, the party will be focusing on 60 assembly segments where it secured 35,000 to 75,000 votes in the LS polls.

Bolstered by its performance in the recent polls, the party decided to rejuvenate the network at the grassroots ahead of the local body polls. National president J P Nadda will attend the extended state-level leaders’ meet to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on July 9. Around 8,000 party leaders from panchayat committee president to state committee members will attend the meet.
