BREAKING: Tenerife-Bound EasyJet Flight Returns to Gatwick Due to Hydraulic Failure

New Delhi: A Tenerife-bound EasyJet flight made an emergency landing at Gatwick airport in the United Kingdom due to a technical glitch.

According to sources, the flight suffered a ‘hydraulic failure’ in mid-air, prompting the flight crew to make the emergency landing.

The flight U28033 with around 244 passengers on board squawked the 7700 emergency code as it was flying over France this morning.

The Airbus A321neo commercial plane reportedly had a hydraulic failure at around 8.40am, according to Flight Emergency. the plane descended from its cruising level and turned around, heading back towards Gatwick airport.

It was put into a holding pattern at 6,000ft to burn its fuel before landing – which is sometime needed in order to lose weight or because of maintenance issues.

Media sources quoting a Gatwick Airport spokeswoman said, “The aircraft has landed safely and no operational impact at the airport.”

A statement from EasyJet is awaited.

In a similar incident, a San Francisco-Mexico United Airlines flight had made an emergency landing in Los Angeles due to an issue with the aircraft’s hydraulic system.

The aircraft had 105 passengers and five crew members on board when the technical problem was reported. Flight 821 had landed safely, and passengers were deplaned normally at the gate. United says Airbus 320 has three hydraulic systems for redundancy purposes. They said a preliminary investigation revealed that there was an issue with one system on the aircraft.
