New Delhi: Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is seriously contemplating a move away from Old Trafford this summer to take up a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal. The reports suggest that the Portuguese midfielder representatives have met Al Hilal’s officials in the past days for the advance talks about a potential move that could allow Fernandez to take part in the forthcoming Club World Cup.

Al-Hilal, who are looking to make a major statement signing ahead of the tournament, will face heavyweights like Real Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg, and Pachuca in the group stage, and see Fernandes as a player capable of making a significant impact on the world stage.

Despite the swirling transfer rumours, Fernandes has remained professional during United’s post-season tour of Asia. He continues to lead the squad with intensity and has not openly confirmed or denied the possibility of an exit. That silence has only fueled further speculation that a summer departure could be on the cards.

While Man United are actively pushing Fernandes out but sources suggest that the club remains calm about the situation. The possibility of a transfer fee around £80 million could prove too attractive for United to ignore, particularly with new manager Ruben Amorim expected to reshape the squad for the upcoming season.

When Amorim was asked about Fernandes’ future during the Asis tour expressed his admiration for Bruno, saying, “You can see by his performances, by his leadership, and the passion he has for the game. In difficult moments, Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should do it because he is the captain.”

The 30-year-old signed a contract extension with United last August, keeping him tied to the club until 2027, with an option for an additional year. However, money and the chance to join an ambitious project in Saudi Arabia could prove decisive.

Key Player under scrutiny

Fernandes was Manchester United’s standout performer in an otherwise turbulent season, scoring 19 goals across competitions. Many believe his form was a key factor in keeping United afloat during difficult stretches of the campaign. However, he hasn’t been without criticism. Former United captain Roy Keane, for example, has been vocal about Fernandes’ attitude and questioned his discipline, calling him part of the deeper issues at the club.

Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £47 million, Fernandes has made 290 appearances and scored 98 goals for the Red Devils. Whether he stays or moves on, his impact on Manchester United in recent years has been unquestionable. His decision in the coming days could shape the next chapter for both him and the club.
